Zijn de gegevens over producten geverifieerd?

De informatie en gegevens worden ingevoerd door de bijdragers van Open Food Facts. De bijdragers sturen ook foto's van het product, de labels, ingrediëntenlijst en voedingswaardentabel. Bij twijfel kunnen bezoekers de nauwkeurigheid aan de hand van deze foto's controleren en als er een fout is deze ter plekke corrigeren.

Om mogelijke fouten beter te detecteren, zullen we geleidelijk geautomatiseerde controles toevoegen. bijvoorbeeld als de voedingsfeiten van een product sterk verschillen van producten van dezelfde categorie, kan dit een fout zijn. Als de voedingwaarden samen meer dan 100% bedragen, is het zeker een fout.

Kan ik productfoto's of gegevens toevoegen van de site van de fabrikant, winkelsites of andere sites?

Probably not. Almost all other sites forbid reproduction and reuse of their data and images, and that is actually the reason why we have created Open Food Facts: to make all this data available to all and for all uses.

Om juridische problemen te voorkomen, vragen we bijdragers daarom om alleen foto's toe te voegen die ze zelf hebben gemaakt en alleen gegevens die afkomstig zijn van de verpakking en het label van het product.

Ik ben een voedingsmiddelenfabrikant, kan ik mijn eigen producten toevoegen?

Ja! De enige voorwaarde is het accepteren dat de gegevens en de afbeeldingen beschikbaar worden gesteld onder een open licentie. (see the Terms of contribution)

We have developped a free platform to let you easily import photos and data about your products, regardless of your size. It will let you import complete and up-to-date data and visuals into Open Food Facts that will be visible in more than 100 other nutritional apps. Wat is het verschil met andere websites, services en mobiele applicaties die al toestaan om informatie over voedingsproducten weer te geven?

Het belangrijkste verschil is voor ons een kritisch punt: onze gegevens zijn vrij en gratis beschikbaar voor iedereen en voor alle doeleinden. Het is wat open data wordt genoemd.

Bijna alle andere sites, services en applicaties verbieden anderen om hun gegevens te reproduceren en opnieuw te gebruiken. Quite to the contrary, they jealously keep it for themselves. In almost all cases, their terms of service explicitly forbid any non-personal use and any extraction of all the data or parts of the data.

We consider that food products information is too important and useful to keep it locked in a safe. So when we started the Open Food Facts project and mobile app, back in 2012, we decided to do exactly the opposite: not only we allow use and reuse of our database, freely and without fee, to everyone and for all uses (including commercial), but we also encourage it!

Making the data publicly available (what is known as open data) allows individuals, associations, companies, researchers etc. from all around the world to think up and develop applications for the data that we certainly would never have thought about.

Wat is het economische model van Open Food Facts?

Bijdragers zijn vrijwilligers. Hun bijdragen worden verzameld in een open database die voor iedereen en voor alle doeleinden gebruikt kan worden. (see the Terms of reuse)

Everyone (including but not limited to Open Food Facts contributors and creators) can thus redistribute and/or reuse the data to build web sites, services, software, mobile applications, or to write articles and studies. Hergebruikers zijn vrij om het resulterende werk beschikbaar te maken, te verkopen of te gelde te maken (bijvoorbeeld met advertenties), zolang ze de voorwaarden voor hergebruik blijven naleven.

We are also strictly independent from the food industry, and all the services and software we build are free. For example, our Platform for Producers is totally free, and we are all the more pleased with that because we think it might help them improve their products.
